Just to be perfectly clear, if you're visiting Harper's Ferry and really want good food and great ambience, then you should get back in your car and drive 20 minutes to Shepherdstown. But if you want to focus your time on all the wonderful history that this town contains and you just want something healthy and tasty then Cannonball Deli is the spot. I came with my parents and we enjoyed our meal and found it to be a good value. The inside of the deli is nothing to write home about but you can eat outside on the back patio with tables and umbrellas. The service is friendly, attentive and fast. My folks ordered a Philly cheesesteak which came with a really fresh side salad. I ordered a veggie version of the burrito bowl. It was a perfectly seasoned blend of rice, black beans, mushrooms, bell peppers and onions with a fresh side salad and really delicious in-season tomatoes. I couldn't even finish it. So the three of us ate heartily for $22-- an exceptional value in an otherwise tourist trap area. The server even gave us a 10% discount for Father's Day. I would definitely return for a quick bite next time I'm in the area.

Harper's Ferry is a small town offering a lot of history, a train station, and West Virginia's only portion of the Appalachian Trail. There is a lot to explore and a plenty of water around to allow a lazy day on a raft. But, this review is about Cannonball Deli! There are not a ton of dining options here and because of that not a ton reviews, on well, anything. But Cannonball Deli did received a few good ones and we were quite hungry so we headed here. Our server/host was a young kid, maybe 15 or 16. While friendly banter was nowhere to be found, service was definitely speedy. All three of us got the hot dog and I pleased with the prices and the fact that they didn't serve us teeny tiny hot dogs like you find at a lot of places. It was a satisfying, cheap meal that gave us the energy to do the walking tour of the town.

Unexpectedly good. This place was empty, where the restaurant next door was booked (and I was too hungry to wait). The pizza and meatball subs were solid. Fresh, huge portions of veggies on the pizza. Toasted sub sandwich. Good, quick service.

Wanted something cheap to eat while I was at Harpers Ferry. Most of the other restaurants in town were over $10 for any food so I picked cannonball deli due to price. That being said expect what you pay for. I had the cheeseburger and you could tell it was a frozen burger. The bun was fresh and lettuce was good. But for $6.50 what do you expect, not gourmet but filled a hole that need to be plugged. Service was speedy and friendly.

I'm surprised to see all the positive reviews for this place, to be honest. I was at this restaurant earlier and left shortly after ordering. The floors clearly hadn't been swept or cleaned in any way for some time, there was no soap in the restroom, and the soda machine was broken. We were willing to look past all of these things and stay for lunch until we saw a rather large cockroach climbing up the wall just feet from where we were sitting. We gathered our things and headed to the register to pay for the drinks we'd had and the waiter had the audacity to tell us we couldn't cancel our order. Between the bad service and overall grossness, this place was just awful.

After horrific experience down the road this place was a god send. Solid lamb gyro, generous ice cream cone size, and friendly service. A good option in a town curiously short on good food.

Grabbed lunch here at the beginning of a 100-mile section hike of the Appalachian Trail in late May 2010. Hikers get a 10% discount at Cannonball Deli. I ordered the cheese steak sandwich. As stated by most reviewers, the service was quick and I was out the door and onto the trail in record time. I didn't eat my sandwich until 2 miles downstream, but it was tasty and juicy. Loved the cooked onions. Would have loved to have lingered on the back patio and enjoyed the view while enjoying their fare. My only real complaint is general - none of Harper Ferry's eating places seem to be open in the evening. I arrived on the commuter train about 6 p.m. and was only able to refill a water bottle downtown.

Yummy fresh food and ice cream. Owner makes his own tzatziki sauce which is awesome and his own Greek vinaigrette with crumbled feta. What a nice surprise in Harper's Ferry and so close to the beginning of the trek! I loved the chicken gyros although at first I was surprised it was an actual sliced chicken breast. My husband had the more traditional blend of meat sliced off the spit which wasn't as good as the chicken but still tasty. The plate comes with a fresh mixed lettuce salad with tomato, cucumber, feta, and that yummy dressing and chips. Staff is very friendly!

So glad to find good cheap food in a tourist haven like Harpers Ferry! My gyro salad was DELICIOUS! Burgers were excellent and they were flexible and basically put together a kids plate for my youngest. Service was friendly and everything was very fresh. Thanks Yelp for sending us here!

We found this facility based on Yelp reviews. Admittedly the restaurant was very busy. However, we were disappointed with the food. The veggie subway was served on a white roll without any oil, vinegar or seasoning. The curly fries (for which we had to pay extra) were cold and sloppy. In their favor when told that we were dissatisfied with the fries, they replaced them, but with hot soft ones!

Great food. Probably the best falafel sandwich I have ever eaten and the best pita bread. Lamb gyro was awesome as well. Great sizes of dinner as well. My only disappointment there was their coffee. But it should not take away its credit of delicious food.

Best place to eat in Haper's ferry. You will know why only when you eat. So fresh~~

The most consistently good restaurant that we've been to in Harper's Ferry. The place appears to be run by a group of teenagers, but they're the same kids that we see in there every time we go. They're very attentive and the food is very good and affordable. Nothing great; pizza, sandwiches, salads and sides primarily. We live nearby and usually make a day trip of C&O canal biking and sightseeing. The dining area is tiny with not more than 8 tables, but fortunately it's tucked down in a basement and you'll miss it if you blink while walking by. It's usually overlooked by "tourists" so we usually don't have a difficult time getting a seat. I would have given it 3 1/2 stars if Yelp would have allowed it; it's better than A-OK, but I don't know if I consider myself a "fan".

What an amazing find! We thought we'd have to go outside the area to get lunch when we first planned our trip, but got hungry while in town and stopped in just to take a chance. Awesome falafel! Great service! Kind of tiny, but that was not really a detractor for us. What a wonderful little place! I'd almost be willing to make the two hour drive back just to get their falafel and Greek salad again!!!!

What a wonderful surprise! The menu is very ethnically diverse, but I recommend the Greek dishes. The chicken gyro sandwich was one of the best I've ever had. It comes with a great salad too. The chicken was lean and tender and the sauce was scrumptious.

Little basement deli that my friend and I discovered as we were walking around the backside, where they have patio seating. Went through the back door and right through all the teenage boys who were working there. They worked really quickly and brought us our absolutely delicious Chicken Gyro Salads. There's a selection of salads, sandwiches, wraps, drinks, and ice cream.... and probably more. We were in a hurry, so didn't really notice, but were satisfied with what we got. You would probably miss it from the front of the building, but it seemed to be quite popular, as there were many locals and tourists who came in.

Awful. Absolutely awful. Hot and wouldn't run the AC. Food very mediocre.

I kind of had a feeling something was going to pleasantly surprise me about this place. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's in a historic town with lots of daily visitors, and I knew my dad did his research before leading us in. I can be kind of a food snob so I was curious to see what this place was putting on the table. It was delicious! I ordered a falafel wrap, and it came with a Greek side salad and chips. The plate was huge so I saved half, but I was really happy with the quality, freshness and presentation. The wrap was made really well! Also happy to see vegetarian options. Mom got the burrito bowl with chicken, I almost ordered this, and definitely will if there is a next time. I was impressed with the flavor in this dish! The service was also very good. There were three younger adults all working very patiently together. The deli itself was very small inside but made for a quaint, small town experience. And we later discovered a patio around the back with plenty of seating. Only thing I would suggest is to serve drinks in reusable cups as opposed to styrofoam. I figure they do this so tourist/travelers can take drink to go, but maybe offer a refill in the styrofoam, but something less wasteful for those dining in. That's all!

Came here with 2 friends after doing a 4 hour walking tour of Harper's Ferry. We were all hungry! Two of us got cheese steaks and one got an individual pizza. The cheese steaks were delicious. I ordered mine with no mushrooms and my friend ordered hers with no peppers. Both orders were correct. We also got chips and a salad. The chips were fresh and the salad was big and fresh. My friend who got the pizza love it. She said it was the best she had eaten in a long time. Our waitress was attentive and very nice, without hovering. I had my own water and she brought me a cup of ice, without me even asking. She was there to refill drinks before we had to ask her to. We ate inside as it was hot and humid outside. It was wonderfully cool inside. I can't wait to come back and try the gyros.

This place is FANTASTIC!!!! It is an in-the-basement-hole-in-the-wall, but the food and service are dynamite! We were seated quickly by an attentive young man I took to be the manager. (?) I ordered the veggie wrap and my husband and daughter got the hot dogs. The veggie wrap am an come with fresh or cooked veggies. I opted for cooked and it was wonderful!!!! It came with a side salad and chips. The salad was so refreshing with lots of veggies. The hot dogs were enormous!!!! I would definitely visit this place again if I happen through Harpers Ferry again.

Excellent! My family was in Harper's Ferry for a day trip on Saturday, and with two picky eaters it can be hard to find a place to eat that satisfies everyone's needs. Went to the Cannonball Deli for lunch, and it was just right for all of us. Ate on the patio and watched the trains go by. We ordered the chicken quesadilla, lamb gyro, meatball sub, mushroom and swiss burger and the Greek salad. I can only speak to the salad, but it was fresh, delicious and huge (especially the Feta cheese and homemade dressing!) My siblings also raved about their vanilla and chocolate milkshakes. This is clearly a family run business and it is a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, but also such a gem.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sandwich at the Cannonball. The hot sandwich included a large side salad and chips. You order at the counter and they bring the food to the table. I did not have high expectations given that the place was deserted at lunchtime but it turned out to be a good experience.

Just wanted to add that, as other reviewers noted, there is a very nice outdoor seating area that would have improved my dining experience a great deal. I don't think it was open in the fall when I went though, so it might be just during the summer months. Be sure to check though--this area is around back, on the Potomac Street side. Also, I saw the falafel and vegetarian platter on the menu...lots of vegetarian options here.

Happened in on a cold January day. Small place but 6 of us managed to squeeze around 2 tables. On recommendations from yelp we had the falafel and lamb gyros. Very nice owner/ server and yummy food.

This place was surprisingly good. We went here because it had the best yelp reviews for the area. It's a little hole in the wall and the atmosphere isn't that great but if your looking for some good lunch food, you'll find it here. We got the Philly steak sandwich.

We stopped in here late afternoon on Mother's Day, after hiking on the A.T. I wasn't really sure what to expect. The place was empty, and I was afraid they were closing. They assured us we could come on in, and eat. We were grateful because we were hungry. The menu offers a wide variety of options; from gyros, subs, pasta, pizza, salad, burgers, and more. I opted for a chicken gyro. The rest of my party had lamb gyros, and subs. We were all extremely satisfied with our meals. I loved the cucumber sauce on the gyro. Best I've ever had. The portions are large, and the price is reasonable. Before we left to go explore Harpers Ferry, we got shakes, and ice cream. Also, yummy. Overall, a pleasant experience. I would recommend it to anyone I knew that would be visiting Harpers Ferry, WV, and if I found myself back there, I would definitely want another chicken gyro.

Came here after wondering around Harper's Ferry for a while. It was a Sunday afternoon so it was pretty crowded. A bunch of teenagers and hikers there for the ice cream. Very small interior but they had seating outside also. I got the New York style hot dog and a steak and cheese for the boyfriend. It took a while which made since by how busy the place was. The chips that came with my hot dog was kinda soggy which did not make much since because I didn't keep it in the box for that long. The boyfriend's sub came with chip and a salad. His chips werent that soggy and his salad was fresh. We thought the sub was great until we found a bug in it. I might try a different place when I visit next time. Good for the ice cream and thats probably it.

Until I tried this little place in a basement in Harper's Ferry, I had no desire at all to hike the Appalachian Trail. But once I did, I realized that, if this is the type of food that awaits long distance hikers at city stops along the trail, it might not be an awful idea. Though I'm about as active as ground slug normally, I do love carbohydrates. And this place fulfilled even my insatiable needs for bad for you (unless you're burning off the calories) pastas with thick tomato sauces. And the serving size was so gigantic that my eyes got as big as my stomach when I saw it. The sauce, it has to be said was very rich so I'm not sure how I would handle it on a hike (if I were to do such a thing), but I left full and with quite a bit of money left in my pocket. In the time that I was there, a couple of hikers did come in off the trail (though they were the weekend sort) and the employees chatted them up and asked them about their hike. And that was a nice touch. I think a big problem would be, however, that I'd get too attached to this restaurant to move on down the trail. They have so many vegetarian items on the menu, it was almost hard to just choose the spaghetti. But if I were actually hiking, that would be the least of my problems most likely.

Came here because of previous yelp reviews and the smell of gyro and was not disappointed. We ordered the lamb gyro and chicken quesadilla and both were amazing. Both came with huge side salads and the gyro also had chips. Service was fast and great. They also have an ice cream bar but we were so stuffed by the food that we did not partake. About $10-$12 per meal. Not bad for how much food we got.

After a nice long hike at Harper's Ferry, we were hungry and decided to stop by here for lunch. This place looked like a mix between Greek and Mexican food, can't go wrong with that! So we ordered 2 burrito bowls and a Gyro sandwich. I had a beef burrito bowl and it was BoMB! I definitely recommend it! The chicken was good too (I tried a piece) but the beef was way better! The portion sizes were huge, but I loved the food so much I ate it all! Hehe, I burned it all off on the uphill hike back to the car though ;) Also their service was good, and they look cramped but they have outdoor seating in the back which it nice and spacious. If you're looking for lunch in the area, I definitely recommend this place!

Had 2 large pizzas and a sub. Took 45mn to get the food, and it wasn't anything good. I don't get the 4 star reviews. Soda bottles almost room temperature.

Best place I have found in downtown harpers Ferry! Lots of little restaurants and small places to eat but most are expensive and have less than standard food. This place was a nice surprise. Everything we had was fresh and well presented. I highly recommend the burrito bowl, though everything we had was great!

Tonight, my family and I ordered two pizzas via phone. We were told that they'd be ready in 10 minutes. When I arrived 10 minutes later, I waited another 15-20 for the pizza, even though there was no one in the place. When I left, I opened the pizzas in the car and was extremely disappointed. The toppings weren't right and they looked like cheap frozen pizzas. When we got home to taste them, they actually tasted worse than they looked. Awful! I used to believe that there was no such thing as a bad pizza. This place proved me wrong. So so disappointed! And, the worst part was that it cost me almost $32 for two lousy pizzas. Such a waste of money and calories. DO NOT get the pizza here!

Wandered into their outdoor dining area, off of Potomac Street - departed via front entrance, and probably wouldn't have eaten here if we'd come in that way. Food was quite tasty. They had Stewart's soda, an old-school treat. We had very tasty cheese-covered bread as an appetizer. Then I had a Caesar salad with toasted pita bread; everything was fresh, although it had too much dressing. My wife had a Gyro salad that was very large and tasty. The server was very nice. To get to the bathroom, I had to ascend stairs outside, then literally walk through the kitchen. Overall, food was good, but facilities need a major facelift.

My wife and I had just finished a hike off Maryland Heights and were looking for a restaurant to eat at. Walked up and down the main street and came upon the Cannonball Deli - strange name, but it said it had outside seating. When we entered, we did not see any outside seating, so we asked the waiter. He said "Sure, just follow me." and he promptly escorted us right through the kitchen to the outside seating area, which was very nice. Any restaurant that takes you through the kitchen to the outside area is already a little quirky by my book, but hey, I like quirky. The outside area was cozy and open at the same time. We ordered the Swiss Mushroom hamburger and the Lamb Gyro - both were served on a an eclectic, mismatched plates, with a salad and chips - asked for french fries, but they do not serve them. That's ok, because the rest of the food was delicious. My wife commented in a nice way that it looked like the plates were probably purchased from a yard sale, which in my book is another "plus" mark - food good, atmosphere unpretentious. Looked at the table next to us, and they were having pizzas with heaping toppings for lunch, which looked great . Service was great! The cook in the kitchen smiled at us as we came through, and the entire staff looked happy working there! Great place for lunch!

Had the lamb gyro and it was out of this world good. Huge portion, great value! Really excellently cooked lamb! My son had the chicken caesar wrap. Also excellent. Topped off with a huge cup of ice cream. Bottom line: I'd come back here in a heartbeat if I was ever back in town.

Went here for lunch yesterday before me and my fiancé headed out for a hike. I ordered the Greek pizza and it was probably the best pizza I've ever had. There were surprisingly few people at the restaurant but it didn't scare us away. Everyone else seemed to gather at a restaurant with only 2 stars on yelp and totally missed out on a great experience. When I go back to Harpers Ferry I will definitely come back to Canonball!!

We stopped here with our Girl Scout troop because it looked like a generic place thet everyone could get what they want but expectations were not high for the food beyond filling up. Boy, were we wrong! Although the decor screams cheap pizza place, instead the food was served on real plates and it was delicious! My fellow leader and I had the falafel wraps. It was hands down the best falafel I've ever had! It was also large and came with a lovely Greek salad and unremarkable chips. Most of the girls had various pizzas. I saw another review about the pizza being frozen, but this was not our experience! These pizzas were homemade with fresh toppings and even though they were called personal pizzas, they were quite large and yummy! The spaghetti was a large portion and the one of our girls who ordered it seemed to enjoy it. I am planning to take my husband back to hike, but part of it is just about getting another one of those falafel wraps!

This little basement hole in the wall has fantastic service and delicious, beautifully presented food. Were it not for the other Yelpers, we never would have considered descending those stairs. Yum.
